Where Will I Go When I Die?

Some questions in life are never answered. It may be because there is no answer, or maybe, because we don’t know where the answer is found. Happily, this question does have an answer and the place to find that answer is the Bible, God’s Word to man.

God tells us that man is a creature who never ceases to exist. When one dies, his soul continues to live in one of two places; heaven or hell (see Luke 16:19-31). One can know his destination beforehand because God reveals it in the Bible.

All men enter this world with a nature that is sinful, selfish, and rebellious toward God. “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

Because of this sinfulness, every man faces condemnation or an eternity of separation from God in hell. Even man’s best efforts to live a good life cannot bring escape from this dreadful fate. “Therefore by the deeds of the law shall no flesh be justified (declared righteous) in His sight:” (Romans 3:20, see also Isaiah 64:6)

Thankfully, God has provided a way that man can escape his terrible destiny. God’s plan involves a Substitute. A Sinless One Who would take the sinners place of condemnation. A Righteous One Who would provide the righteousness that we all lack. “For He {God} made Him {Jesus Christ} , who knew no sin, to become sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.” (II Corinthians 5:21)

Jesus Christ is the sinner’s Substitute. He bled and died on Calvary’s cross to take our place and suffered the wrath of a holy God for each one of Adam’s fallen descendants. And to demonstrate the acceptance of that offering, Jesus Christ rose bodily from the grave after three days. He is alive and able to save! Christ alone is the Way to heaven. Jesus said, “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father, but by Me.” (John 14:6)

God not only provided a way for sinners to escape the torments of hell, but also offers this salvation as a gift. He made it free! “For by grace are you saved through faith; and that {salvation} is not of yourselves: it is the GIFT of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9; see also Romans 6:23)

The only condition by which we go to heaven is that we believe God and trust in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Paul told the Philippian jailer, “Believe on (trust or rely upon) the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved,” (Acts 16:31).

Friend, you can know that you are passed from death unto life, from condemnation to justification, from heading to hell to heading to heaven. In God’s Word we are told, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.” (I John 5:13)

The choice is yours, do nothing and know that you are going to hell. Or, trust in Christ as your Savior and know that you are going to heaven. Trust Christ today!
